Meet Catherine (Kitt) Christie. She is a grandma that has been volunteering and raising awareness for the Children's Tumor Foundation ever since her own grandson got diagnose with Neurofibromatosis (NF).
NF occurs in 1 out of 3,000 births and it causes tumors to grow on the nerves throughout the body. Half of the people who develop NF1 or NF2 inherit it from a parent. The others develop it by chance, as the result of a spontaneous change in a specific gene in an egg or sperm cell. Unfortunately for Kitt's family, her grandson developed NF by chance since nobody in the family has it. There is currently no cure for NF so spreading the word and creating awareness is the best way to help.
